It is unknown what therizinosaurs ate, but some paleontologists have proposed that they were most likely bizarre plant-eating theropods. Alxasaurus, like other therizinosaurs had very large claws on its hands. These claws might have been used for defense from predators OR to rip open termite or ant nests if they were also insectivorous as well as herbivorous.
